When choosing readings for assigned readings or class activities, I try to pair short excerpts of primary sources with secondary sources. There are 2 main versions of these pairings I make. The first is a set where the primary source is used in the secondary source. The second is a set where the primary source is put into historical context and sometimes called into question by the secondary source. 

After sharing several examples and the concept on TikTok, lost of teachers and profs commented requesting I share my list of paired source in its entirety. With that in mind, below is a link to a google sheets with one tab for first half U.S. history readings and a second tab at the bottom for 2nd half U.S. history readings.
(As there is some overlap during Reconstruction, if you are looking for that era, check the last few readings on the first sheet and the first few readings on the second sheet).
